A Tree Grows In Brooklyn, 1964

This reliquary was constructed near the end of Nichelson’s cathedral series and is still an assemblage but with greater elaboration in exterior finishes and interior design.  Based on the 1965 murder of Kitty Genovese in Brooklyn, the title comes from the 1943 book by Betty Smith, but here it is adapted to the Greek myth about Daphne who escaped the pursuit of Apollo by turning into a tree.
